Slick 4301 Magnetos from Air Parts, Winnipeg, installed on C150 C-FLUG with Women Pilots helping Jim Aitkens

Becky Dueck, Lindsay Kitson, and Jill work with Jim Aitkens to install new Slick 4301 Magnetos on C150 C-FLUG Friday night in the heated RAA workshop - with the wind howling outside and temperatures dropping to below -25C. In the process, Lindsay and Becky learned how to clean out lead from a spark plug, and entered into their Maintenance Log books "installed and timed magnetos"! Next they will shovel the ramp so they can roll C-FLUG out and do a test run-up to check the mag drop; once the wx improves a test flight will be completed and then C-FLUG is back in the air. Thank you to Jim (AME) for donating his time to keep C-FLUG runing smoothly.

Amy does some true "soft field" circuits in C150 C-FLUG at Lyncrest Airport

Amy did some true "soft field" circuits after being checked out on snow packed runways with Murray Bryson at Lyncrest Airport on Saturday Jan 12th, 2014...the -7C temperature was a welcomed reprieve from the -30 to -50C wx we've been experiencing for the last month or so.

Flying C150 on wheels off snow packed runways - winter safety seminar

Manitoba Chapter 99s swapped tips on flying off snow-packed runways and entering uncontrolled airports.
Peter Moodie condensed 50+years of winter flying into 30 minutes, building on Larry Brown's November presentation. Rachelle and Lindsay have been flying C-FLUG this winter on snow-packed runways, they shared their tips on staying un-stuck and checking the runways. #1 point - walk the taxi and runway to see if the surface feels so hard you can't make much of an imprint with your heel...and then taxi the runway to confirm that C-FLUG's wheels can travel the surface reasonably.

Rachelle and Lindsay, sitting in front of the fireplace, have gained some invaluable experience in "soft field" techniques taxiing and flying off snow-packed runways.Check Lindsay Kitson's blog for a great description of her experiences!

C150 C-FLUG's instrument panel is rearranged by Jim with Women Pilot's help

Thanks to Lynne Hoeppner for taking these photos of Lindsay, Becky and Marissa working with Jim on rearranging C-FLUG's instrument panel. Weather is -35C plus wind chill so C-FLUG is grounded til the wx warms up!
